How tall is an extra-height garage?
An extra-height garage — sometimes listed as X-Height — comes with a choice of two wall heights: 7'0" or 7'6". Each is paired with a matching taller door that gives clear access of around 6'8" (a 7' door loses about 4" to the door head).
That's the clearance that keeps vans, 4x4s, caravans and motorhomes secure, dry and off the drive all year round — with the same strength and security as our standard buildings.

How tall is an extra-height garage?
You can choose 7'0" or 7'6" wall heights. Each comes with a matching taller door that gives clear access of around 6'8" (a 7' door loses about 4" to the door head) — enough for most vans, 4x4s and roof-boxed vehicles.
Will my van or 4x4 fit through the door?
The taller doors give clear access of around 6'8" (a 7' door loses about 4" to the door head). Measure your vehicle's full height including aerials or roof bars, and if it's close, call us — we'll check the clearances with you before you order.
What does X-Height mean?
X-Height is simply the older name for our Extra-Height range — the same buildings with 7'0" or 7'6" walls and taller doors for extra vertical space.
Is extra height available on every garage style?
Yes — every building style we make can be built extra-height, from single pent roof garages to double apex Elite models, and our concrete sheds and workshops as well.
Do extra-height garages need planning permission?
Sometimes. Permitted development rights cap garden buildings at 2.5m in many situations, and an extra-height building can pass that depending on roof style and where it sits on your plot. We'll advise on your case before you order.
What else do people use the extra headroom for?
Home gyms, workshops with racking or machinery, and home-based businesses are the most common. The extra wall height also leaves room for hoists, shelving and mezzanine-style storage.
How much does an extra-height garage cost?
