Garage windows
A window turns a garage into somewhere you can actually work. Here's what we fit, where to put it, and when to leave it out.
Nucrete concrete garages take fixed timber windows, normally 4ft wide, set into the concrete panel run wherever you want them along a side or gable. Double garages include two as standard. On single garages a window is an option, and it's the one people most often wish they'd added.
Windows are specified when you order, because the opening is formed as the panels are made in our Bradford factory rather than cut afterwards.
Where should the window go?
Put the window where you will stand, not where it looks tidiest on a drawing. If you plan a bench down one side, the window wants to be above it. If the garage is for parking and the occasional job, a window in the gable end throws light down the length of the building rather than across it.
One thing worth thinking about before you decide: a window on the roadside or footpath side shows everyone what you keep in there. Plenty of customers deliberately put the window on the garden side for exactly that reason.
How many windows can I have?
As many as the panel run will take, within reason. A single garage most often has one; a double garage comes with two as standard and can take more. On a long building, two smaller windows spread out give far more even light than one big one in the middle.
We'll tell you honestly if a position you've asked for weakens a panel run or clashes with a door, and suggest the nearest sensible alternative.
Are garage windows a security risk?
A fixed window is considerably harder to get through than an opening one, which is the main reason our windows are fixed rather than hinged. There's no catch to force and no frame to lever.
If security is the deciding factor, the honest answer is that the door matters far more than the window. A 2-point locking up and over door, or a roller door with the motor engaged, is what actually keeps a garage shut. See our up and over doors page for how ours lock.
Do I need a window at all?
If the building is purely for parking and storage, no. Plenty of garages go up without one and the owners never miss it. Adding a light and a socket does more for a parking-only garage than a window does.
But if there is any chance you will use the space as a workshop, a gym or a home office later, put the window in now. Forming an opening in a concrete panel afterwards is not a job you want, and daylight is the single thing that decides whether a garage becomes a useful room or stays a place you put things.
Replacing a window in an existing garage

If your garage was made by someone else, send us the measurements and a photograph of how the existing window sits in the panel and we'll tell you honestly whether we can help. Sizes and fixing details vary between manufacturers, and a frame that nearly fits is worse than none. Where a garage is genuinely past repair, we remove old buildings — including licensed asbestos removal — and replace them.

What size are Nucrete garage windows?
The standard window is 4ft wide, fixed, in a timber frame. Double garages include two of them; on other buildings a window is an option specified when you order.
Do the windows open?
No — our standard windows are fixed. That makes them stronger and more secure than an opening window, and there's no catch or hinge to fail. If you need ventilation, an air vent is a better answer than an opening window.
Can I choose where the window goes?
Yes. Tell us which side and roughly where along it, and we form the opening as the panels are made. Decide before you order, because it isn't something to change afterwards.
Do windows add much to the price?
Far less than most people expect — size and roof style move the price much more than windows do. Request the price list to see the figures for your delivery area.
Are the windows covered by the guarantee?
The building structure carries our 10-year factory guarantee. Glazing and timber components are covered against manufacturing defects; ordinary wear and accidental breakage are not, as with any window.
