Up and over garage doors
The door is the part of the building you touch every day, and the part that decides whether the garage feels secure.
An up and over door is a single rigid panel that tilts up and slides back into the roof space on a pair of tracks. Every Nucrete concrete garage comes with a Hormann up and over door as standard, with 2-point locking, in white steel.
It's the default for good reason: there's very little to go wrong, it's the most economical door to fit, and a 2-point lock into both sides of the frame is genuinely difficult to defeat.
What width door do I need?
Single garages take a 7ft or 8ft door. Doubles take 10ft, 12ft or 14ft. The width you need depends less on your car than on your drive: if you have to turn sharply off a narrow drive, the extra foot is worth more than any option on the price list.
Our rule of thumb after 45 years of fitting these is that almost nobody regrets going wider, and a fair few people regret going narrower. If you drive anything with big mirrors, or your partner is the one reversing in, take the wider door.
How secure is an up and over door?
The Hormann doors we fit lock at two points, engaging both sides of the frame rather than a single central catch. That's the meaningful difference between a door that can be sprung at one corner and one that can't.
Security on a garage is mostly about the door and the frame being fixed properly into the structure, which is why we fit them ourselves rather than subcontracting it. If you want more than the standard door offers, a roller door with the motor engaged is the next step up.
How much room does it need inside?
An up and over door needs clear space in the roof area for the panel to sit when it's open, and a little swing-out room in front as it tilts. On a standard-height garage that's not usually a problem, but it does eat into the front of any roof storage you were planning.
If headroom or roof storage matters, say so before you order. A roller door takes almost no internal space, and an extra-height garage solves it a different way.

The building structure carries our 10-year factory guarantee. Doors carry their own manufacturer's warranty, which starts at 2 years and varies by door — we'll tell you the exact term for the door you choose before you order.
Can I have an automatic up and over door?
Ask us when you order and we'll go through what's possible for the door and building you're specifying. If automation is the main thing you want, a roller door is usually the better starting point.
Can the door be a different colour?
