Lean To Carports

Lean-to carports fix to the wall of your house — the neatest way to cover a car, a doorway or a patio on a normal driveway.

Palram Canopia lean-to carport kit fixed to a house wall, aluminium frame and polycarbonate roof

A lean-to carport is a car shelter that fixes to the wall of your house, with the wall carrying one side of the roof and slim aluminium legs carrying the other. Because the house does half the work, a lean-to needs fewer posts, sits tight against the building and fits driveways where a freestanding carport simply wouldn't. Palram Canopia lean-to kits come with a written 10-year frame guarantee.

When is a lean-to better than a freestanding carport?

Choose a lean-to when your parking runs alongside the house — which is most British driveways. With no posts on the wall side, you keep the full width of the drive for opening car doors, and the carport doubles as a covered walkway to your front or side door, so you get from car to house dry. The wall fixing also makes the whole structure feel anchored and neat rather than stood in the garden.

A freestanding kit is the better call when the parking space sits away from the house, when the wall you'd fix to is unsuitable, or when you want shelter on all sides of the car. If that sounds more like your site, start with the full carport kits range.

What do you get with a lean-to carport kit?

Palram Canopia lean-to kits pair a rust-free, powder-coated aluminium frame — in white or anthracite grey — with 8mm twin-wall polycarbonate roof panels that are 100% UV-protected, so they won't yellow or turn brittle. Rain gutters are integrated into the roof edge (downpipes are sold separately), the legs are adjustable, and the wall-mounting plates allow installation around pipes and other obstacles.

Assembly uses Palram's Click-N-Lock system, so no special tools are needed — plan for two to four people depending on the size. Widths run from 2.3m up to 4m, with lengths from 2.3m right up to 13.4m on the 3m-wide models, so one kit can cover anything from a single doorway to a whole run of cars. Delivery is approximately 10 working days.

Lean-to carport questions, answered

What kind of wall does a lean-to carport need?

A sound, solid wall you can fix the mounting plates to — a typical brick or block house wall is ideal. The mounting system allows for pipes and other obstacles on the wall, and our TechAssured team can advise on fixings for your particular wall before you order.

Can I use a lean-to carport as a patio cover instead?

Yes — the structure doesn't care whether there's a car underneath. Plenty of customers fit the same kits over patios, doorways and walkways. For a deeper covered seating area, also look at the Olympia patio cover on our patio covers page.

Does a lean-to carport deal with rainwater?

Yes — gutters are integrated into the roof, collecting rainwater along the low edge. Downpipes are sold separately, so you can run the water wherever suits your drainage.

How many people does assembly take?

Two to four people, depending on the size of the kit. The Click-N-Lock system needs no special tools, and most installations are finished within a day once the groundworks are ready.

Will the polycarbonate roof discolour over time?

No — the panels are 100% UV-protected, so they won't yellow or become brittle in sunlight. The aluminium frame is powder-coated and rust-free, making the whole structure effectively maintenance-free.
