Garage guttering and fascias
The least interesting option on the list, and the one that causes the most arguments with neighbours if you skip it.
Guttering collects the water coming off your garage roof and puts it somewhere sensible. Timber fascias are the boards along the roof edge that the guttering fixes to — on a Nucrete garage they come pre-treated in red cedar preservative as standard.
Guttering is measured by the foot along the roof edge, so what you need depends on the roof style: an apex roof gutters along both sides, a pent roof along the single low side.
Do I actually need guttering?
If the garage stands alone in the middle of a garden with nothing beside it, you can get away without. Everywhere else, fit it.
The reasons are practical rather than aesthetic. Water sheeting off an ungutttered roof digs a trench along the drip line and softens the ground right where your base edge is. If the garage sits near a boundary, that water lands on someone else's land, and that is a conversation you don't want to have every autumn. And if you walk in and out of a side door, an ungutttered roof edge will find you.
How is guttering measured and priced?
By the foot, along the length of roof edge being guttered. On an apex garage that's normally both sides, so roughly twice the length of the building. On a pent roof it's the low side only. Lean-to buildings and sheds are measured along the appropriate single run.
The current rate per foot is on the price list rather than printed here, so that what you're quoted is always the live figure for your delivery area rather than something that went out of date on a web page. Ask for the price list and you'll see guttering listed with the other options.
Where does the water go?
This is the question worth thinking about before installation day, because it's much easier to plan than to fix. The downpipe can go at either end of a run, so the water can be directed away from a path, a boundary, a doorway or a soakaway you already have.
Tell our team where you'd like it when they arrive, or mention it when you order. Plenty of customers run the downpipe into a water butt at the back corner, which is the cheapest irrigation system you'll ever install.
What maintenance do the fascias need?
The timber fascias come pre-treated in red cedar preservative, and the honest answer is that they want re-treating every few years like any exterior timber. It's a straightforward job with a brush on a dry day.
If you'd rather never think about it, ask about maintenance-free options such as uPVC when you order. On a building expected to last 50 years, choosing not to have a job to do every few years is a reasonable thing to pay for.
Guttering questions, answered
Is guttering included with a concrete garage?
Guttering is a priced option rather than standard, because whether you need it depends entirely on where the building sits. Timber fascias pre-treated in red cedar preservative are included as standard.
How much guttering does an apex garage need?
Normally both sides, so roughly twice the length of the building. A pent roof needs the low side only, which is about half as much — one of the smaller ways the roof choice affects the final price.
Can I add guttering later?
Yes, guttering can be added to an existing building. It's cheaper as part of the original order because the team is already there with the materials, but it isn't a decision you're locked out of.
Can I have maintenance-free fascias?
Ask when you order. Standard fascias are timber pre-treated in red cedar preservative; maintenance-free options such as uPVC are available and worth considering on a building this long-lived.
Where will the downpipe go?
Wherever suits your plot — either end of a gutter run. Tell us or the fitting team where you want the water to end up, ideally away from paths, boundaries and doorways.
